I had been enjoying my time with Cox’s Panorama WiFi router, but as of late, it had been acting up.

Random disconnections or speeds slowing down were some of the issues I was having.

To add to my misery, my Wi-Fi dropped outright in the middle of a meeting that I was in.

I had to fix this as soon as possible and to do that, I started my research at Cox’s support pages.

I also looked at some user forums to help me get more hands-on experience from other Cox users.

This guide is a result of that research and made so that you can fix your Cox Panoramic Wi-Fi that is not working.

To fix Cox Panoramic Wi-Fi thats not working, restart your router. If it doesn’t work, relocate your router to someplace closer. If the issue persists, reset the router.

Why is your Cox Panoramic Wi-Fi Not Working?

The first thing you should do before you start looking at the internet connection itself is to see if the issue aggravates the further you move away from the router.

If it is, your device is not receiving a strong enough signal from the router.

Another cause of the issue can be an outage on Cox’s side.

Your cables can also be a culprit, leading to lower speeds or outright loss of signal from the Wi-Fi router.

The ports that the router uses to get the internet connection can also be damaged by regular use or ambient weather conditions.

What to do during a Cox Internet Outage

Unfortunately, the only thing you can do if it is an ISP outage is to wait until they fix the issue on their end.

If you think it was an outage on Cox’s end, call them up on their customer service contact, and ask them if there is an outage.

Get Reimbursed for a Cox Internet Outage

If the outage is major enough, lasting several days, you can get reimbursed for the lost time.

Call Cox and ask for the Billing department and tell the of the outage.

The department will adjust the bill accordingly and not charge you for the period of the outage.

Check the Cox Website

Cox has a neat little utility that allows you to check for outages in your area without needing to contact support directly.

Go toCox’s outage website, and log in to your account.

From there, you can see if Cox is down in your area.

If it is showing that its down on their website, Cox is already working towards a solution.

The best thing you can do at this point is to wait until they fix whatever issue is on their end.

Check your Cox Panoramic Wi-Fi for an Orange Light

Check the status lights on your Panoramic Wi-Fi gateway.

Ifthe light labeled ‘Link’ on your Cox router is orange,it indicates that the router is looking for a downstream connection.

If this orange light stays on for more than 30 seconds after turning the router on, it means that the router cannot find an internet connection to connect to.

Restart the router and check all connections to and from the router.

After the router restarts, check if the orange light stays on.

Power Cycle your Cox Panoramic Wi-Fi

A power cycle is where you completely turn off the device, unplug it from the wall and wait for a while before connecting everything back up again and turning it on.

This will help reset any temporary setting change that could have resulted in you losing connection to the Wi-Fi.

To do this,

  1. Turn off your modem.
  2. After all the lights go off on the router, unplug the router from the power outlet.
  3. Wait for 1-2 minutes and plug the router back in.
  4. Turn the router on.

After all the lights on the router turn on, run a speed test to check if your internet has been fixed.

Reset your Cox Panoramic Wi-Fi

If a power cycle doesn’t work, try resetting the router.

A factory reset can restore the router to its default settings and fix network issues caused by some settings changes.

To factory reset your Panoramic Wi-Fi router:

  1. Find the reset button on the router. It is usually located on the back of the router.
  2. Get a paperclip or something similar and press and hold the reset button with it for 10-20 seconds.
  3. The router will restart and will now be restored to factory defaults
  4. Go through the initial setup process for the router and activate it.

After all the lights look okay, run a speed test to confirm your internet is working properly.

Check Your Cables

The cables that carry signals to the router can get damaged due to regular use or ambient conditions.

Double-check the cable that brings the internet connection to your router, as well as the ports it connects to.

If they are damaged, ask Cox for a replacement.

Check your Ethernet Ports for Damage

The ethernet ports can fail, especially if you unplug the ethernet cable a lot, so check for any damage on the port or the ethernet cable itself.

I’d advise you to replace the older ethernet cable with the, which supports higher ethernet speeds and has gold contacts that increase durability.

Check your Reception for weak Signal Strength.

Make sure you are standing as close to the Wi-Fi router as possible.

The signals from a router can get blocked by thick walls and metal objects, so try minimizing the number of obstacles between the router and your device.

Check for DNS Issues

A DNS is the internet’s address book, so it can be a point of fault if your internet is not working properly.

Flushing the DNS on your device can help fix the issue.

To flush your DNS on Windows:

  1. Press Windows Key and R on your keyboard to bring up the Run box.
  2. In the text field, typecmdand press enter.
  3. In the black window that pops up, type ipconfig/flushdns and wait for the ‘Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache‘ message to appear.

For macOS Catalina.

  1. Open the Terminal application.
  2. Typesudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponderin the Terminal window and press enter.
  3. Enter your Mac’s password, and press enter again.

To flush the DNS on your phones, turn on Airplane Mode and turn it off.

Contact Support

If none of this works, contact support.

Tell them of your issue and what you have tried to fix it till then.

They will suggest something else that you can try, and if that fails, they will send in a technician for a more detailed diagnosis and fix.

Cancel Cox Internet

Even though I would advise against canceling if you ever want to cancel your Cox internet, contacttheir customer support.

After canceling, you would have to return all your equipment to a Cox store.

If you cancel in the middle of a month, you will only be charged for the part of the month where you were on the connection, which means you won’t be charged for the entire month if you cancel in the middle of that month.

Final Thoughts

While you are on Cox’s website, check if there are any payments due as well.

If you didn’t somehow notice a leftover due from a previous bill, pay it up as soon as possible.

Late dues can be a reason why your connection was disrupted.

Run a speed test after every fix you try because you can know immediately if what you have tried has fixed the issue.
