Chapter Text

Season 2 Episode 7 - Set your heart ablaze.

Rengoku-san. Please, you have to be okay. Tanjiro thought.

The screen lit up again, showing a recap of what just happened. Showing Rengoku and Akaza continuing their fight. Rengoku used several breathing techniques, as Akaza charged at him. Rengoku cut off Akaza’s arms, but not his head. The recap ended, showing Rengoku’s blood drip onto the dirt. The screen filled with ink, showing the title card. The background was an ombre of blues.

“This time, I’m actually glad we have a recap. I can analyze the fight better,” Rengoku muttered.

“Rengoku.. You have to cut off his head,” Kanroji pleaded.

“The blood, let’s just hope your injuries aren’t fatal,” Kocho sighed.

Set your heart ablaze? Isn’t that Rengoku-san’s catchphrase? Iguro thought. I hope it isn’t implying what I’m thinking.

Rengoku and Akaza were barely apart. Rengoku’s breathing was labored and quick, as he stood. Tanjiro looked over in horror, sweat beaded on his face. It then showed Rengoku, blood dripped down from his head, and smashed eye. His chest heaved as he breathed. Meanwhile, Akaza stood unfazed, he looked disappointed.

“You can still fight, right? Bug Eyes,” Inosuke asked. He turned to look at Rengoku.

“As long as I am alive, I will fight,” Rengoku said firmly.

He’s not going to give up? Even with all those wounds? Perhaps this fight will be more interesting than I thought. Akaza thought.

“You need to control your breathing,” Shinjuro said. As he looked at his son.

How dare he look disappointed. Kocho thought, her eyes twitching.

“Don’t go dying on me, Kyojuro,” Akaza said.

“If you didn’t want him to die, then why did you injure him so much,” Tanjiro spat.

Akaza didn’t respond, he just rolled his eyes.

Rengoku didn’t respond, his whole body moved as he breathed. It showed him from in front, his working eye was wide, and blood stained his uniform. Dust clouded his flamed haori as well. Quickly moving to his face, blood trailed down from his mouth.

“Rengoku…” Kanroji whispered worriedly.

At least you still have one eye that works,” Kanata said.

So much blood. Senjuro thought.

He gasped softly, as it went to his feet. Drops of his crimson blood stained the ground beneath him. Tanjiro watched, his eyes widened from shock.

“Don’t fret,” Rengoku smiled reassuringly, “At least it’s only a few drops of blood.”

“But…” Kanroji said, trailing off.

Where the hell are the other Hashira? He needs backup. Shinazugawa thought.

Mr. Rengoku. Rengoku! Tanjiro thought, his vision blurring. Rengoku!

“Please, you can’t help in this fight with your wounds,” Rengoku said firmly.

“I know but…” Tanjiro said.

Akaza stood away from Rengoku, no wounds were visible on him. His eyes slanted in disappointment. It moved out a little, showing one slash across his chest.

“Don’t you see that fighting to death in that frail human body will never measure up to mine,” Akaza said, “Those impressive attacks that you inflicted upon me have already healed completely.”

“That doesn’t matter, as long as I decapitate you, I don’t care about my fate,” Rengoku said.

“It’s such a shame, even with such a big attack you missed all of Akaza-dono’s vital spots,” Douma pouted.

Akaza brought his hand to his chest, showing the slash heal instantly. It went to Rengoku, whose whole body moved as he breathed heavily. Dirt and blood covered his uniform.

“He’s completely healed..” Tanjiro said, “What now..”

Their differences are so interesting. Akaza is completely fine, and casual. While, Rengoku-san is injured heavily, and focused. I suppose that’s just the difference between an Upper Moon and a Hashira. Tamayo thought.

“You, on the other hand, a smashed left eye, shattered ribs, damage to the internal organs all irreparable. If you were a demon, you’d heal in the blink of an eye, and those wounds would be but mere scratches,” Akaza pointed out, moving his arms. “In the end, a human can never surpass a demon.”

“I see, so those are your injuries,” Kocho said.

“Quit offering me to turn into a demon. I will never accept,” Rengoku said firmly.

“Your loss,” Akaza spat.

I can’t believe he’s still offering to turn Rengoku-san into a demon. Zenitsu thought.

“Your way of thinking is arrogant to the highest level,” Iguro said.

It showed the side of Rengoku’s face that had all the damage. His eye was shut completely, as blood dripped from it. Tanjiro slammed his hand on the ground. His fingers shook, as he tried to get up. Inosuke was still next to Tanjiro.

“I find it interesting that most of your injuries are all on your left side,” Rui said.

“I agree,” Tanjiro nodded.

Akaza should quit toying with him before that brat gains enough strength to fight again. Kokushibo thought.

I want to go help him. Tanjiro thought. As he tried to move forward, his body shook and he clutched his stomach. But I don’t have the strength to move. This injury and using Hinokami Kagura have taken their toll.

“Tanjiro, look at your condition, there’s no way you’ll be able to actually fight,” Zenitsu said.

“Yeah, if you do, you might reopen your wound. You should listen to Rengoku-san,” Aoi agreed.

“I know,” Tanjiro sulked.

“Oh? What toll does Hinokami Kagura leave,” Amane asked.

“Based on what I’ve seen, it probably leaves me more drained,” Tanjiro guessed.

Rengoku’s mouth was wide open as he breathed. However, in the blink of an eye, he shut his mouth and flames erupted around him. The golden hue illuminated his body, his haori blew in the wind, as did his hair.

“Flames,” Suma said, tilting her head.

“Woah, so pretty,” Hinatsuru said softly.

What an amazing fighting spirit. Even after all the injuries. Akaza thought, his eyes widened in excitement.

It went farther away, showing Rengoku’s whole body in the middle of the large fire. It was a bright yellow color that lit up the area around him. Akaza looked in awe and was surprised that Rengoku wasn’t giving up.

“Woah, Bug Eyes is standing in fire,” Inosuke gasped.

“I don’t think that’s it, Inosuke. I think that's his fighting spirit,” Tanjiro said, in awe.

“I told you, I’m not giving up,” Rengoku said.

“Good, that just makes the fight better,” Akaza smirked.

“So this is how it is, then,” Akaza said.

Rengoku put both hands on his sword as he raised it. His foot slid into formation as well. His sword was by his head, ready to be used.

“I… I will see my duty fulfilled,” Rengoku said, with a smile, “No matter what it takes, no one shall die here!”

“You truly are a remarkable child, Kyojuro,” Ubuyashiki smiled.

How can he smile like that with all those injuries? Rui wondered.

“Yeah,” Kanroji cheered, “Nobody is going to die. Rengoku will make sure of that!”

It zoomed out from behind, showing the back of Rengoku’s head.

I’ll inflict as much damage as quickly as possible. Rengoku thought, before getting into formation. Flame Breathing. Esoteric Art!

“Hell yeah, we get to see another form of Flame Breathing. You’re so flashy,” Uzui said.

What an ironclad stance. Azaka thought, smirking.

The flames that surrounded Rengoku burst, sending a wave of flames around him. He was no longer covered by the flames, rather, the ground beneath him glowed brightly. The air shook, and Akaza gasped, surprised at Rengoku’s form.

“How pretty,” Tokito murmured.

“The flames are so cool,” Amane said.

“Did you just make the ground shake,” Zenitsu loudly asked.

“I did,” Rengoku nodded.

“What an impressive fighting spirit. To press on, despite your bodily injuries,” Akaza praised, before smiling, “That brilliant strength of mind! And that ironclad stance!”

“I thought I told you, I don't want your praise,” Rengoku spat.

“I hate to agree with him, but it is rather impressive that you're able to keep fighting,” Kocho said.

Rengoku was still in his stance, not smiling anymore. Flames seemed to cover his red blade. Akaza looked at him and began laughing, his fangs prominent.

“Now you have to become a demon,” Akaza shouted, “Just imagine it! We’d be able to fight each other for the rest of eternity!”

“My, my, Akaza-dono you're rather desperate aren't you,” Douma smirked.

“I'm not desperate,” Akaza spat.

Fighting for the rest of eternity sounds tiresome. Tomioka thought.

It went back and forth between them as Akaza spoke. Akaza was smiling wide, excited to propose his idea again. However, Rengoku stood firm and unwavering. Just then, where his heart was, a bubble of flames appeared.

“Woah, is that a fire in your heart,” Rui asked.

“Don't fret. It's nothing to worry about,” Rengoku said.

Oh I wonder what Kyojuro is going to do now. Akaza thought.

Set your heart ablaze. Rengoku thought, the flames moving to each of his limbs. Overcome your limits.

“Set your heart ablaze? What a beautiful phrase. It matches you perfectly,” Himejima smiled.

“I agree,” Shinazugawa said.

“Woah, the flames are moving to your limbs too,” Kiriya said.

The flames went to the end of each of his limbs, he then grasped his sword tighter than before.

“I am the Flame Hashira! Kyojuro Rengoku,” Rengoku shouted, “Ninth Form, Rengoku!”

“Hell yeah,” Shinazugawa cheered.

“Another form of Flame Breathing, awesome,” Uzui said.

Akaza smirked, “Destructive Death, Annihilation Type!”

“Annihilation type,” Nichika said softly.

The air around Rengoku seemed to be heating up, waves of warmth surrounded him. Akaza prepared his attack in return. Rengoku firmly planted his foot in the ground, causing it to break. It was as if flames were coming from underneath the ground, and all around Rengoku. The flames formed around Rengoku, going high in the air. Within the blink of an eye, Rengoku was gone, charging at Akaza. For a moment, it looked like he hadn’t moved, the flames surrounding him. However, it then showed his incredible speed, a line of flames erupted behind him.

“Woah, it's like the air around is getting heated,” Yushiro said.

“Look Monjiro, he broke the ground too,” Inosuke said

“I can see that,” Tanjiro weakly smiled

Such speed. Akaza thought.

The flames formed into a large creature that mimicked a dragon. Its eyes were a bright blue in contrast to its yellow and orange body. It went into the eye of the creature, showing Rengoku. The monster screeched loudly, as it continued going for Akaza.

Many slayers watched in awe as the flames formed into what appeared to be a dragon.

“Why are the eyes blue,” Suma asked.

“I assume it’s because fire can be blue when it’s extremely hot,” Tamayo said.

“What a loud sound,” Uzui said, covering his ears.

Akaza laughed loudly, bringing his arms ready to attack. Bright blue energy balls formed in his hands as he brought them in front of himself. Now blocking the flame dragon. The angle shifted, now showing their attacks from the side. The bright blue of Akaza’s defense clashed with Rengoku’s gold attack. Then, an explosion appeared, dust kicked up creating a large cloud. The force went to Tanjiro and Inosuke, who moved their arms to protect their faces from the dust.

“Damn it,” Shinazugawa said, “He’s blocking the attack.”

“Those colors are so pretty,” Genya murmured.

“Was that an explosion,” Zenitsu yelled.

“That kicked up dust, now we can’t see the fight,” Douma frowned.

“Rengoku,” Tanjiro screamed, reaching his arm forward.

Through the dust and debris, it went to Rengoku. His bright flames surrounded him, an angry expression clouded his face as he raised his sword. He began to swing it towards Akaza, who moved his fist forward. Rengoku’s sword sliced through Akaza’s arm like warm tofu, the blood spilling between them. However, Akaza was still smiling, as he pulled his other arm back preparing an attack. It went close to Akaza’s face, he laughed, as he still smiled at Rengoku.

“Woah. It's like you're on fire,” Senjuro said.

Every time he raises his sword like that he leaves his solar plexus vulnerable. Kokushibo thought, sighing.

Your sword is cutting his arm so effortlessly,” Tanjiro said.

“So it seems, I just hope I'll be able to get his neck,” Rengoku said.

His other arm! He's going to attack! Kanroji thought.

Once Rengoku’s sword went through Akaza’s arm, he raised it above his head. As he brought it to Akaza’s neck, droplets of blood shook off his blade. Unfortunately, Akaza used his arm to deflect the blade, causing it to slash his stomach instead. Rengoku grunted as he moved his blade further down Akaza’s torso. The blood splashed him in the process.

“Damn it, he deflected it again,” Shinazugawa said.

“If only injuries like that could kill demons,” Tomioka sighed.

Rengoku’s sword pierced through Akaza. Akaza stopped smiling, bracing himself as he felt the blade go through him. He brought his arm up to attack Rengoku, as the screen went white and the outlines yellow. Before going all black except Rengoku’s flame-colored blade. When it returned to normal, Rengoku groaned as he twisted the blade, screaming loudly. Akaza’s mouth was agape as Rengoku brought his blade upwards, slashing his entire torso. Blood spilled out of the large wound, as a tornado of flames appeared.

“Oh my, your blade went all the way through Akaza-dono,” Douma said

“I must say, these visuals really enhance the fight,” Gyokko chuckled.

I'll pray that the fight will go in Rengoku-san’s favor. Himejima thought.

“Is that a tornado of flames,” Zenitsu asked, his mouth agape.

Tanjiro and Inosuke were watching from afar. Most of the dust had settled, revealing the large flaming tornado that erupted over Rengoku and Azaka. As the flames dispersed, revealing what was left, the boys watched in anticipation.

Please.. please, tell me he's alright. Tanjiro thought.

“I hope the fight is over now,” Zenitsu said softly.

I’m glad the two of them still haven’t tried to fight. They must rest. Rengoku thought.

Mr. Rengoku. Tanjiro thought.

Another dust cloud kicked up, and Tanjiro’s eyes shook in worry. Neither Rengoku, nor Akaza could be seen between the thick dust cloud.

“I can’t see either of them, damn it,” Iguro said.

“Me neither,” Shinazugawa sighed.

Where is he? Tanjiro wondered. He looked at the dust cloud. There.

“Did.. he win,” Tanjiro asked softly.

“I’d be so sad if Akaza-dono was killed,” Douma pouted.

“I doubt I died,” Akaza scoffed.

The dust began to settle, revealing what was left of the fight. Akaza was lower than Rengoku, his arm piercing through Rengoku’s stomach. Rengoku looked down in horror, holding his sword up. Tanjiro’s eyes widened, as he realized what he saw. It then went up close, showing Akaza’s arm, going through Rengoku. Rengoku’s teeth were bared, as a line of blood fell from his mouth. He coughed out blood before it went out showing everything. Akaza had a few injuries himself, the side of his face was gone and a large gash was on his shoulder, along with his arm that was split. However, all these injuries would heal in no time. Tanjiro screamed out in horror.

“The dust is—” Kanroji said. Her face went pale.

Several people screamed out at the sight of Akaza’s arm piercing Rengoku. Tears ran out of the eyes of those who cared about Rengoku. The more squeamish people quickly looked away at the sight. Kanroji couldn’t speak, she was trying not to sob. Rengoku moved closer to Senjuro and hugged him tightly.

“Rengoku-san,” Tanjiro cried out.

“Brother…” Senjuro mumbled, tears streaming from his face.

“I won’t believe it,” Iguro said, shakily.

“Damn demons, I’ll kill them all,” Shinazugawa shouted.

I’m not dead yet, I have to behead him while I can. Rengoku thought, trying to appear brave.

“There’s no way you could survive that injury,” Kocho said softly.

“Kyojuro, you must know this wound will kill you! Save yourself. Say that you’ll become a demon,” Akaza pleaded, as he healed his body. “Can’t you see? Your strength makes you truly special!”

“I refuse your offer! It doesn’t matter what happens to me, I will never use my strength to harm people,” Rengoku shouted.

“Can’t you see? You’ll die,” Akaza said.

Why is he pleading with him? It’s almost as if he’s sad. Urokodaki thought.

The background went to black, and Rengoku seemed to glow. His hair moved in the wind and a chiming sound was heard. The scenery changed, showing a bright blue sky. A glass windchime was hanging from the ceiling, a few blue flowers were painted on it. It chimed again, before moving. Showing a woman with her black hair in a braid. She was sitting on her futon, looking outside. Beside her bed was a tray with medicine and a cup.

“Wait.. what’s happening,” Tomioka asked.

“If I had to guess, Rengoku-san’s life is flashing before his eyes,” Kocho said softly.

“A windchime,” Genya asked.

That’s the one at our estate. Shinjuro thought.

“Wh-who’s that woman,” Kanroji asked, wiping her eyes.

“That’s.. My mother,” Rengoku smiled softly.

“Medicine? Is she ill,” Kocho asked.

“She passed away years ago from an illness,” Shinjuro said quickly.

“Kyojuro,” Ruka said, turning to look at her son.

“She’s pretty,” Aoi said softly.

“Yes, she was,” Rengoku nodded.

Mother.. Senjuro thought.

“Yes, what is it, Mother,” Rengoku asked quickly. He was much younger, maybe nine or ten.

“You were so cute as a child,” Kanroji said, her eyes still watery.

“Thank you, Kanroji,” Rengoku said.

“I want to ask you something,” Ruka said, her kimono was a light blue with flowers on it. “And I want you to answer honestly. Do you know why it is you were born with greater strength than so many others?”

Ah, I see. It’s this memory. Rengoku thought, smiling softly.

“Is it true you were born with greater strength,” Suma asked.

“I was,” Rengoku said.

Little Rengoku pondered the question for a moment. He was sitting beside his mother’s futon, while Senjuro was fast asleep on the futon. Rengoku’s hair was much shorter, and he looked nothing like his mother.

“Look Senjuro, you were so cute as a baby,” Rengoku smiled.

“If I may ask, why is your hair like a flame,” Kanao asked softly.

“Ah, that's because of a ritual. That all pregnant women in the Rengoku family participate in. It's what gives us our flame-colored hair and eyes,” Rengoku said.

“Uh,” He said quietly, before speaking clearly, “No, ma’am, I don’t.”

“It is so that you can protect the weak. Those who are born blessed with more bountiful gifts than others are obligated to use those gifts for the sake of the world, for all of our fellow brothers and sisters,” Ruka began to explain.

“Isn’t that what you told me when I was your tsuguko,” Kanroji asked.

“It is,” Rengoku smiled, “My mother’s words are very important to me.”

Ruka… Shinjuro thought, smiling softly.

“What wise words,” Himejima said.

It went to Rengoku, he was listening and very focused on his mother’s words. It moved over to baby Senjuro, who did not have the iconic red hair tips yet.

“Look Senjuro-kun, you don’t even have the red in your hair yet,” Kanroji said.

“You must never use that God-given strength to bring harm to mankind or for your own selfish desires,” Ruka continued, it went back to her. “It is the duty of those born strong to help those who may be less fortunate, a responsibility you must carry onward with due purpose. Be sure you never forget that.”

“And that is why I will never become a demon,” Rengoku said firmly.

“Your mom seemed really kind,” Kocho smiled.

“She was,” Rengoku said.

“I wish I was able to meet her,” Kanroji said.

“I won’t,” Rengoku exclaimed.

It showed the view from the front, Ruka extended her arms, beckoning Rengoku to come near. Rengoku gasped softly, before moving closer to his mother, he scooted on his knees. Then, his mother embraced him, hugging him gently. Ruka’s skin was pale, another sign of her sickness.

This reminds me so much of my mother. Shinazugawa thought.

“Your mother is so kind,” Tanjiro said.

Mother, I miss you. It seems I'll be seeing you soon. I hope you're proud of me. Rengoku thought.

“Kyojuro… I don’t have much time left. Having such a strong, gentle child… was a true blessing,” Ruka said, tears began falling down her face. “I believe in you.”

“I'm glad you had such a wonderful mother,” Uzui smiled.

No Mother, you're wrong. It was I who was blessed to be born to such a strong woman. Rengoku thought.

“What an innocent moment,” Himejima said, tears rolling down his face.

It went up close to Rengoku’s fiery eyes. They widened as his mother praised him, making him look like he was on the verge of tears. His eyes shined brighter, the highlights swirling around. Then, the sound of the soft chime was heard again.

The veins on Rengoku’s hands formed quickly, as he grunted loudly. He used his arm and swung his sword down, pressing it into Akaza’s neck. Akaza screamed as blood left his neck. Rengoku’s face was covered in visible veins as he continued. His hand shook as he tried to move the blade further to decapitate Akaza.

Woah, his veins formed so quick. Aoi thought in awe.

“What the hell? You can still move,” Gyokko gasped.

“Yes, you got his neck,” Iguro said.

Damn it. How is he still able to move his sword? Akaza wondered.

Mother… It was I who was blessed to have been born to such a woman as you. Rengoku thought.

“You really are a wonderful person, Rengoku-san,” Himejima said.

That's how I feel about my family too. Tanjiro thought, smiling weakly.

“You truly are a good person Kyojuro,” Ubuyashiki smiled.

Akaza lowered himself, but Rengoku’s blade was still in his neck. Rengoku began screaming, as he shoved the blade further into Akaza’s neck. Akaza bawled his hand into a fist and went to punch Rengoku’s other eye. It zoomed into Rengoku’s eye, and in the split second, Rengoku grabbed Akaza’s arm and moved it to the side.

“You have to decapitate him,” Kanroji said loudly, “Please.”

“Your sword is further, you can do it,” Uzui said.

“He's going for your other eye,” Senjuro shrieked.

The second Rengoku grabbed Akaza’s arm to stop his attack, many people's eyes widened in shock.

“My my, look at that Akaza-dono. He blocked your attack,” Douma chuckled.

He stopped it?! Akaza thought, as he gasped.

He stopped it? Akaza thought, his eyes shaking. What unbelievable strength! And even after I’ve skewered his body with my arm!

“Now that's flashy,” Uzui cheered.

Maybe.. maybe Kakushi will be nearby and can save Rengoku. Please, please. Kanroji thought.

“Akaza you better not fail,” Muzan said angrily.

It showed behind, Akaza’s arm wasn’t visible from behind Rengoku’s haori. Akaza then looked behind, noticing the sun rising. Blood seeped from the cut in his neck. It went to where Akaza was looking, the train wreck was visible and the sky was covered in darkness. With the promise of light over the horizon.

It doesn't even look like he's being skewered. Douma thought.

“Look, the sun's rising,” Kocho said happily.

“You might be able to keep him there until the sun rises,” Kunia said.

“I'll do my best,” Rengoku said.

I have to escape. When did I start to get so sloppy? Akaza thought, balling his hands into fists.

Damn it. The sun will rise soon. Akaza thought.

Akaza tried to move his footing to get away, but Rengoku just moved with him. Rengoku’s blade shone, as the sky got lighter. Revealing the bright blue of the morning hours.

Why can't I free myself? Akaza wondered, trying not to panic.

“Kocho-san, how long until the sun burns him,” Genya asked.

“Less than fifteen minutes,” Kocho said.

I have to kill him and make my escape! Akaza thought. he attempted to pull his arm out. Why can’t I pull my arm out?

No... he's going to escape. Kanroji thought.

“Wait, what,” Akaza asked.

“You're stopping him from pulling his arm out, how flashy,” Uzui praised.

There's no doubt that if Akaza pulls his arm out Rengoku-san is going to bleed out. Tamayo thought, growing.

While Rengoku held Akaza’s other arm, he used his muscles to force Akaza’s arm to continue to pierce him. The veins of Akaza’s pale skin contrasted the dark colors of Rengoku’s bloodied uniform.

Is he using his muscles to keep Akaza in place? That's so cool! Inosuke thought.

I won’t let you escape. Rengoku thought, looking down at what Akaza was doing.

“I can't believe he's holding an Upper Moon in place,” Daki scoffed.

“Oh my, looks like you're in quite a tough spot Akaza-dono,” Gyokko chuckled.

Akaza groaned as he kept trying to release himself. Meanwhile, Rengoku looked at him, in all seriousness. He effortlessly kept Akaza’s other hand trapped as well. Rengoku groaned, pulling Akaza towards him. Tanjiro finally was able to stand up, and he moved towards the duo.

I can't believe he's keeping Upper Moon Three trapped. Zenitsu thought.

“Tanjiro? You're up, and moving,” Aoi said.

What is that brat planning? Muzan wondered.

I need to find my sword! Tanjiro thought.

I know Mr. Rengoku ordered me to stay back… Tanjiro thought, running to pick up his blade. But I just can’t any longer!

“Kamado-kun, please. Stay back,” Rengoku sighed.

“I can't just sit and wait for you to bleed to death, I have to do something,” Tanjiro cried out.

Tanjiro ran back, still clutching his stomach. He held his sword with his free hand.

This is my only chance. I have to slice that demon’s head off, and fast! Tanjiro thought.

“We have to help Rengoku-san,” Tanjiro said, looking at Inosuke.

“Yeah,” Inosuke said, “I'll do it since you're injured.”

I wish I sent another Hashira.. maybe then Kyojuro would survive. Ubuyashiki thought, frowning softly.

The sun began to peek out from behind the train wreckage, as Tanjiro ran toward them. Akaza looked at the impending doom, fear struck his face. Rengoku’s hand shook as he kept Akaza still.

“Perhaps you won't have to decapitate him. At this rate the sun will kill him,” Amane said.

I have to get away. Akaza thought, panicking.

“You all can do it, just keep stalling him,” Kanroji said.

“I refuse to let my death be in vain,” Rengoku said.

The sun is rising. I have to get away! Akaza thought.

“Let go of me,” Akaza said, trying to pull away. “Let go of me!”

“I can't believe you got yourself trapped, Akaza,” Muzan scoffed.

“I apologize, Muzan-sama. I promise I'll escape,” Akaza said.

His arm pulled against Rengoku but didn’t leave the flesh. Rengoku had him trapped, even as he tried to leave. Rengoku held onto Akaza’s other hand tighter than before. Akaza then screamed in frustration. Tanjiro lifted his free hand to cover his ear and he kept running. The camera moved in a circle, showing all angles.

“He's still trapped,” Senjuro gasped softly.

“The amount of strength it must take to keep him there,” Aoi said quietly.

“Ah, there's no reason to scream that loud,” Uzui said, covering his ears.

“I won’t let go! Not ‘til I remove your head from your shoulders,” Rengoku said.

“Even while you're dying you're still a badass,” Shinazugawa said.

No, they're wrong. Surely there's a breathing technique he can use to live. Tanjiro thought.

Both of them screamed as they tried to achieve their goal.

“Let go,” Akaza screeched.

Rengoku didn’t respond, he just kept screaming. He moved his blade deeper, now it was about halfway through. Blood splashed from the cut. Inosuke gasped at the sight.

“Your blade is almost halfway through,” Kokushibo said.

“Eek,” Hantengu gasped, “Not more blood.”

“Inosuke, move,” Tanjiro shouted, “If we don’t help him now, it’ll be too late!”

“We’ve got this,” Inosuke said.

“Be careful,” Aoi said, “One slip up, and you could…”

Inosuke grabbed his swords and began running towards Akaza and Rengoku as well. He moved much faster than Tanjiro, who was still clutching his stomach. Inosuke then leaped into the air.

Please be careful. Zenitsu thought.

“Sorry I won't be much help, Inosuke,” Tanjiro sighed.

“No worries, Underling. I've got this,” Inosuke boasted.

“Beast Breathing! Fang One… Peirce,” Inosuke shouted.

He moved his blade close together, hoping to pierce through Akaza’s neck. As he moved closer to Akaza, he gasped. Using his strength to detach his arm from Rengoku’s grasp. He did the same thing with the arm that had pierced Rengoku’s stomach. Leaving the lower half of his arm lodged into him.

Come on. I got this. Rengoku thought.

“f*ck,” Shinazugawa shouted, “He broke his arm off!”

“No,” Tanjiro mumbled.

“At least his arm is still acting as a plug,” Yushiro said.

Akaza planted his foot into the ground, causing Inosuke to fly away from him. The air wave Akaza made, caused Tanjiro to move his arms and brace himself. Tanjiro lowered his arms, noticing Akaza leap into the air. Rengoku fell to the ground, as did Inosuke.

“Inosuke,” Tanjiro shouted.

“I’ll be fine Manjiro,” Inosuke said.

“Such force,” Hinatsuru mumbled.

“Rengoku,” Kanroji cried out, running over to Rengoku.

Rengoku made room for her on the couch and hugged her tightly as she cried.

The sight was bloody, blood was coming out of both of Akaza’s arms. While Rengoku’s sword was latched into his neck. Sweat beaded on his face, and he wasn’t smiling carelessly anymore. He did numerous backflips in the air, landing farther away. He gasped as he saw the sunrise in the distance, regenerating his arm instantly.

“So much blood,” Hantengu shrieked.

“Look at that, you’re free Akaza-dono,” Douma said.

He still has Rengoku-san’s sword. Kocho noticed, veins in her forehead formed.

“No.. we didn’t…” Tanjiro panicked.

I’ve got to find sanctuary from the sunlight. Akaza thought, worriedly. He sped off into the forest.

I can't remember the last time I had to hide away like some bottom-feeder demon. Akaza thought, frowning.

He leaped through the dark forest as Tanjiro chased him to the edge of it. Tanjiro skidded, stopping where Akaza had entered the dense forest. He lifted his blade, preparing to throw it. Fire exited his mouth on both sides and followed his sword as he launched it towards Akaza.

“I’m sorry I failed, Oyakata-sama,” Rengoku said.

“Please, do not apologize. You kept everyone safe. You did well, my child,” Ubuyashiki said.

“Tanjiro-kun, what are you doing,” Kanao asked.

“Did you just throw your sword at Upper Moon three,” Zenitsu shrieked.

That brat. Akaza thought.

That took too long. Akaza thought, ripping Rengoku’s blade out and discarding it. I’ve got to get away from the sun!

That took too long. Akaza thought, ripping Rengoku’s blade out and discarding it. I’ve got to get away from the sun!

At least he left Rengoku-san’s blade. Iguro thought.

He looked behind himself and gasped as a shining light followed him. He screamed as Tanjiro’s sword pierced his skin, going straight through his chest. Anger covered his face as he stopped running for a moment before continuing.

“What the hell, it actually hit him,” Shinazugawa gasped.

“How flashy,” Uzui praised.

How dare he. If the sun wasn’t rising I’d go back and do what I did to Kyojuro to him. Akaza thought, his face covered in anger.

“Don’t run away,” Tanjiro screamed. It went back to Tanjiro who was screaming, “I’m not done with you, coward! Turn and face me!”

“Are you actually threatening an Upper Rank? You sure are bold,” Daki scoffed.

“What are you blabbing about,” Akaza asked.

“Maybe don’t threaten the thing that killed Rengoku-san,” Zenitsu muttered to himself.

Akaza looked confused, as veins in his head formed. His eyes were wide, and blood dribbled down from his mouth. He looked back, and saw Tanjiro, who was screaming.

Threatening an Upper Rank is stupid. He’s lucky that he hasn’t thrown an attack. Iguro thought.

What the hell are you babbling about, kid? Don’t you have a brain inside that head of yours? I’m not running away from you. I’m running from the sun! Akaza thought.

“I don’t care, you deserve to burn in the sun to atone for your sins,” Tanjiro shouted.

Zenitsu moved and placed his hand on Tanjiro's shoulder to comfort him.

“Demons really are pathetic,” Himejima frowned.

It went to the scenery, showing the beautiful sunrise. However, the music that played made it seem much more daunting. Akaza didn’t care, he kept running.

And besides, this battle’s already been decided! Akaza thought, recalling Rengoku’s state. With a wound like that, he’ll die before long.

“Even so, Rengoku didn’t lose. He saved all the people on the train,” Kanroji said. She wiped her eyes, trying to stop crying.

“I still can’t believe you’re going to die,” Senjuro mumbled.

“At least, with this, I might be able to save myself in the future,” Rengoku smiled weakly.

Kyojuro… Why did you have to try to make me proud. Shinjuro thought.

Rengoku was sitting on the ground, Akaza’s discarded arm was still piercing through him. Lifting his haori slightly. Akaza leaped into the darkness of the forest.

I-I can see the outline of the arm through his haori. Genya thought, covering his mouth.

I can’t believe it… Tanjiro thought.

“Don’t forget that the Demon Slayer Corps is always fighting you demons in the dead of the night, where you have the advantage,” Tanjiro screamed as the sun rose, “We’re not like you at all! We don’t regenerate as fast, and when we lose a limb it’s gone for good! Don’t run away, you bastard!”

“What a wise speech,” Rengoku smiled.

“All of this is true. While humans may not have the advantage, we must keep fighting,” Urokodaki said.

Who cares. Daki thought, rolling her eyes.

Tanjiro… Inosuke thought.

Inosuke watched from afar, as Tanjiro continued screaming into the woods. Tanjiro’s words were no longer heard by Akaza, but that didn’t matter. He clutched his hands, and his uniform was still stained with blood.

“I wish I woke up earlier.. Maybe I could have helped,” Zenitsu said softly.

“Please, don’t blame yourself Agatsuma-kun. This isn’t your fault,” Rengoku said reassuringly.

Why is he still shouting? Akaza-dono is long gone. Douma thought.

“You’re a coward, a coward! Mr. Rengoku is stronger than you’ll ever hope to be! Much stronger! You didn’t win against him! He kept everyone safe! He fought to the very end so no one would die! You’re the one who lost! Rengoku is the true victor,” Tanjiro screamed.

How dare he accuse me of being a coward. Akaza thought, rage glossing his face.

“Thank you for your kind words Kamado-kun,” Rengoku said.

“Y-Yeah,” Tanjiro said, choking back tears.

“You’re right Tanjiro-kun! Rengoku is the true victor. He protected everyone,” Kanroji said.

Rengoku’s face twitched, his eyes still laid on Tanjiro who was yelling. Inosuke watched in disbelief, he couldn’t move. After Tanjiro finished his speech, he was panting, catching his breath. Tears streamed down his face in waves, before he screamed in sadness. Each droplet fell to the ground, his fists bawled. That was the first time he was able to grieve over each loss properly. He began to sob, screaming in pain as the others watched.

“Be careful, I don’t want you to reopen your wound,” Rengoku said calmly.

“Rengoku-san,” Tanjiro said, looking back at him.

I think he’s grieving more than Rengoku-san. Urokodaki thought. It’s clear he’s grieving everyone he’s lost.

Zenitsu moved closer to Tanjiro and hugged him tightly.

Inosuke shook and held his swords by his side. Tanjiro began to crumble down on the ground. His sobbing could be heard from far away. It showed Rengoku, Akaza’s arm acted as a plug, keeping everything in.

I can’t believe Bug Eyes is going to die. Inosuke thought.

I suppose Akaza didn’t fail his mission. Kokushibo thought.

“When the sun reaches my body, Akaza’s arm is going to disintegrate, leaving me to die,” Rengoku said.

It’s surprising that he seems so calm. Gyokko thought.

Rengoku smiled softly, “Don’t work yourself up like that.”

How? Even as he’s dying he’s still worried about me. Tanjiro thought, tearing up.

"How can you smile like that? You're going to die," Kanroji sobbed.

Rengoku gently stroked Kanroji's hair to comfort her. "Kanroji, don't feel bad that I'm going to die. I'm glad that I died while protecting my juniors."

Tanjiro stopped sobbing for a moment, looking back when he heard Rengoku’s soothing voice. Tears still ran down his dirtied face.

“You would reopen your wound… and that would be very bad,” Rengoku said, “You dying, my young Kamado, would truly spell my defeat.”

“Rengoku-san, don’t be worried about me. Please, take care of yourself,” Tanjiro said frantically.

“Kamado-kun, there’s no way to save me. So at least let me speak to you one last time,” Rengoku said calmly.

Rengoku-san, thank you for taking care of them. Ubuyashiki thought, smiling.

“Mr. Rengoku,” Tanjiro said softly, now fully turned around.

“Come here, lad. Let us speak, one last time,” Rengoku said.

I can’t believe I’m going to be hearing his last words. Tanjiro thought, his body shaking.

Tanjiro stood up from the grass and the screen went black. When it opened up, the sun was even higher, showing the wreck in light. Each window was shattered, and each car was toppled over. Rengoku’s crow flew towards where he was, landing on the engine car. Tanjiro was now sitting on his knees, just in front of Rengoku.

“When I was dreaming of the past… there was something I remembered. My old residence… you should go pay it a visit. There are notes left by the previous Flame Hashira there. I recall my father used to read them often, but I’m afraid I don’t know their contents myself.”

“You want me to visit your residence,” Tanjiro asked.

“It seems so,” Rengoku said, “My future self has a good idea, reading the notes from the former Flame Hashiras might give you a clue.”

“You have former Hashira notes,” Aoi asked.

“Yes, we do. We are related to the past Flame Hashiras. So we have notes from the former generations,” Shinjuro said.

As Tanjiro sat across, his face twitched, clearly trying to keep the crying to a minimum. The sky was a beautiful shade of blue, with few clouds. However, that meant Akkaza’s arm, which was plugging the hole, began to disintegrate.

To die on such a beautiful day is terrible. I’ll pray for Rengoku in the after live. Himejima thought.

“No… no, his arm is distintegrating,” Tanjiro panicked.

“Within those notes… you may find the dance you mentioned. The Hinokami Kagura,” Rengoku said.

Blood began to seep out of the wound, now that Akaza’s arm was completely gone. It stained his uniform a deep red. Tanjiro raised his arms quickly.

So it seems my time is almost over. Rengoku thought.

“Please! Mr. Rengoku… enough of that. Just think about yourself now. Can you heal up with a breathing technique,” Tanjiro said frantically.

“Kamado-kun, calm down. It’ll be okay,” Rengoku said soothingly.

“How,” Tanjiro asked, “I-I can’t… you need to live.”

“No. Very soon, I’ll be dead,” Rengoku said calmly.

“How can you say that so calmly,” Aoi asked.

“Most Demon Slayers join knowing that death is inevitable,” Shinazugawa said.

Tanjiro moved back slightly, gasping in horror. The tears began to run down his face once again.

“Before that happens, I need you to hear me out. I have a younger brother named Senjuro. Please tell him to follow his heart, and walk down the path he feels is right.”

“You’re mentioning me,” Senjuro asked softly.

“Of course, you are my little brother. You mean the world to me,” Rengoku smiled.

Follow my heart? Senjuro thought. He smiled softly. Thank you brother.

It moved, showing Inosuke, who was shaking. He watched as Rengoku spoke, the sunlight illuminating him from behind. It then showed Inosuke from the front, his whole body continued to shake.

Inosuke latched onto Tanjiro, joining Zenitsu. Tanjiro wrapped his arm around both boys, keeping them close.

“And tell my father… that I want him to look after himself,” Rengoku continued. “And lastly… about your sister…”

Shinjuro’s eyes widened. He.. mentioned me in his final words?

Rengoku looked beside him at his father and smiled.

“Nezuko,” Tanjiro said, tilting his head.

Blood seeped from behind Rengoku’s haori, making a puddle underneath him. Tanjiro gasped when he heard Rengoku mention Nezuko.

Rengoku smiled calmly as he continued, “Know that I believe in her. I accept her as part of our ranks. Your sister shed blood to protect the people inside that train from demons. And anyone who does that, regardless of what’s said, on the contrary, is a rightful member of the Demon Slayer Corps.”

Tanjiro’s eyes watered as Rengoku spoke about believing in Nezuko.

“I must agree with Rengoku-san. Shedding her blood for humantiy truly is honorable. I accept her as our ranks,” Himejima said.

I still don’t trust her… but I guess she’s not so bad. Shinazugawa thought.

Rengoku recalled Nezuko protecting the passengers. Cutting and kicking numerous tendrils of flesh. Blood splashed from her wounds as she protected the sleeping people. The music in the background was calming, and ethereal. It went back, showing Rengoku from the front, a bright smile was on his face.

I still can’t believe a demon is on their side. Daki thought, scoffing.

“This music is so ethereal,” Amane said.

“I agree,” Ubuyashiki said, “It’s quite calming.”

Rengoku, I’ll miss your smile. Kanroji thought, wiping her tears.

“So hold your head high,” Rengoku said, “If you are feeling disheartened, that you are somehow not enough… set your heart ablaze.”

“Such inspiring words,” Himejima said. He clasped his hands together as tears ran down his face.

Set your heart ablaze? Those words.. I swear I’ll treasure them. Tanjiro thought.

Large droplets of tears fell from Tanjiro’s eyes as Rengoku continued his speech. The reflection of Rengoku’s face, all bloodied and battered, was in Tanjiro’s glassy eye.

The reflection of Rengoku in Tanjiro’s eyes. It reminds me of when he saw his sister. Tomioka thought.

“Dry your eyes and look ahead. You may feel like digging your heels in, but the flow of time waits for no one. It won’t patiently stand by as you grieve. Don’t feel bad that I’m going to die. As a Hashira, it’s natural I’d protect you all.”

“This is true, as sad as it is. Time won’t wait for you to finish grieving. You must raise your head and march on,” Kocho said.

“If you never move on from the grief, it will eat you alive,” Amane said.

I know a Hashira would protect us.. But still. Tanjiro thought.

Tanjiro didn’t stop sobbing for a moment, his face laced with grief. While Rengoku smiled, even as the puddle of body under him grew.

“The young buds must be allowed to bloom. Any other Hashira would have done the same as I. Young Kamado… Young Boar… Boy of Yellow… you must continue to grow,” Rengoku said.

“Rengoku is right, it’s natural for a Hashira to protect those of lower ranks,” Himejima said.

Young Boar? That’s not my name. Inosuke thought, huffing.

“I’m sure that you three will be able to become the next Hashiras,” Rengoku smiled.

He looked over to Inosuke as he mentioned him. It then showed what Zenitsu was doing. He was frantically trying to put Nezuko in her box. The two were shaded by the shadow of the wreckage. It went back over to Rengoku, as the music increased in volume.

“Ah, thank you for putting Nezuko back in her box Zenitsu,” Tanjiro said.

“Of course, I don’t want her to die,” Zenitsu said.

“And eventually, you will lend your aid by becoming the next Hashira. I believe… in each and every one of you,” Rengoku said.

“Do you really believe in us all,” Tanjiro asked.

“Of course, the three of you all have potential to be great. I truly believe in all of you from the bottom of my heart,” Rengoku said.

Tanjiro’s sobbing continued, and the sound of Inosuke’s sniffles was heard as well. Tanjiro covered his face with his hand, as he kept crying. Rengoku lowered his head to look at Tanjiro, his vision blurred for a moment. Out of nowhere, a glowing figure appeared… It was his mother. Her hair was still in a neat braid and her kimono was white and yellow. Rengoku’s working eye widened at the sight of his mother. It panned over, showing his mother more clearly. It then moved up, to show her face.

This is even affecting Inosuke… Zenitsu thought, as he looked over.

“Ah, it seems my vision is—” Rengoku said.

The second his mother appeared on the screen his eyes widened.

“Mother…” Rengoku said softly.

“It seems your mother is here to bring you to the after life,” Ubuyashiki said.

Mother, I hope I made you proud. Rengoku thought.

“She’s really pretty,” Kanroji said softly.

Mother. Rengoku thought.

Ruka stood away from them, her body glowing, but not illuminating the shadows she stood in. She stood formally, not smiling, nor frowning.

Huh? I thought Bug Eyes said she was dead. Inosuke thought.

Did I do well? The responsibility I took upon myself to fulfill… was I successful? Rengoku wondered, even his inner voice was pained.

Shinjuro moved on the couch and gently touched Rengoku’s shoulder. Rengoku turned and looked at his father.

“Kyojuro.. I’m sure Ruka is extremely proud of you,” Shinjuro whispered.

“Thank you Father,” Rengoku smiled.

The angle shifted, showing how each of them looked at each other. It went close to Ruka, her face softening into a warm smile.

“Her smile is so pretty,” Tanjiro said.

She reminds me of Mother. Nichika thought.

I’m so proud of you, my son. Ruka thought.

Mother.. I’m glad you’re proud of me. Although, I hope in this life, I can prolong us meeting again. Rengoku thought, tearing up.

Rengoku clearly heard the words he’d longed to hear. His eyes shook, before he smiled widely, blood exited from both sides. Rengoku shut his eyes, and wind blew in his flame-colored hair. After a moment, the music stopped and his head fell. The screen went white, before opening again, showing the bright sun above.

“Let us all have a moment of silence for Kyojuro,” Ubuyashiki said.

All of the slayers lowered their heads in respect. Tamayo and Yushiro followed in suit. However, many of the demons rolled their eyes. Douma tried to speak to interrupt the moment, however no words came out.

Awe man, it seems my voice is gone. I bet it’s the work of the twins. Douma thought, frowning.

After a few moments, they raised their heads again.

It showed the scenery from afar, making everything look small. Even the large train that was all on its side looked like nothing more than some logs. And next to the tracks was a large field. It then went back to everyone. Zenitsu was carrying Nezuko’s box on his back. It panned up as he spoke.

“You really are impressive, Rengoku-san,” Iguro said.

“I really can’t believe there were no casualties, out of two hundred passengers,” Tomioka said.

Zenitsu stood behind Rengoku, Inosuke off to the side, and Tanjiro was right in front of him.

“It must be,” Tanjiro said softly.

“I can’t believe he’s gone,” Zenitsu said, his eyes quivering, “Was it really an Upper Rank demon?”

“I still can’t believe an Upper Moon arrived,” Amane said.

Now that I think about it.. With Zenitsu’s good hearing, he might have heard the entire fight happen. And even… Rengoku’s death. Tanjiro thought.

“Yeah,” Tanjiro confirmed.

“Why would something like that come here, something that strong? I don’t get it,” Zenitsu asked, his voice wavering.

“Kibutsuji likely sent him as soon as he found out the last Lower Moon perished,” Shinazugawa sighed.

Tanjiro grabbed his thighs and began to weep again. “I’m so frustrated. Soon as I manage to break through one wall… it feels like I just hit an even higher, thicker wall. And all the while, I can hear the sounds of my heroes fighting just beyond it… but I can’t make it over to join them!”

“I know that feeling. But remember, I believe in you,” Rengoku said reassuringly.

“We’ll just have to train our asses off,” Inosuke shouted, sniffling.

“Alright,” Tanjiro wept.

Inosuke continued sniffling, clearly hiding his tears. Zenitsu began to weep as well. The wound that was on his head seemed to stop bleeding.

“If I’m still here fumbling around in the dark… how can I ever…” Tanjiro said. His tears dampened the ground. “Is becoming someone like him even possible for me?”

“Kamado-kun, you aren’t fumbling in the dark. Don’t undermine all of your accomplishments,” Kocho said.

“I agree,” Rengoku said.

Inosuke’s eyes widened. “Don’t you dare say anything like that! He already said he believes in you!”

He continued to cry, his face near the dirt. Zenitsu began to cry into his arm, his uniform absorbing the tears. Inosuke began to shake again, before tightening his grip on his blades.

They’re all so pathetic. Crying like little babies. Muzan thought.

Inosuke? Why is he gripping his swords like that? Tanjiro wondered.

“Stop blubbering like a little baby,” Inosuke shouted.

“Huh,” Tanjiro gasped.

“You heard me! Remember what Bug Eyes said! Crying won’t bring him back, we just have to get stronger,” Inosuke shouted.

Tanjiro stopped crying for a moment and looked at Inosuke. Zenitsu followed, lifting his head from his arm. Inosuke moved his arms around to prove his point.

“This “can I or can’t I” talk is really pissing me off! He already said he believes in you, so you just have to worry about how to get there! All living things just go back to the earth when they die! Feeling sorry for yourself isn’t gonna change that,” Inosuke shouted, before bursting into tears. “Remember what Bug Eyes said to you! No matter how pathetic or humiliated you feel, you just gotta keep on living.”

“Inosuke…” Tanjiro gasped. He smiled softly, “Thank you.”

“Your words are wise Hashibira-kun. Thank you for taking care of Kamado-kun after my death,” Rengoku smiled.

Just gotta keep on living. Tomioka thought. It’s easier said than done.

“But you’re crying too. I can see all the tears coming out of that headpiece of yours,” Zenitsu said, his voice still wobbly.

“I am not crying,” Inosuke shouted, punching Zenitsu in the shoulder.

“Ow, don’t hit me,” Zenitsu shrieked.

“Please don’t fight,” Tanjiro sighed, chuckled weakly.

Inosuke ran over and headbutted Zenitsu in the forehead.

“I am not crying,” Inosuke said.

Zenitsu fell back, before landing face-first on the ground. Inosuke began to run around, waving his swords as he sobbed. Tears flew out of his mask and into the air. Tanjiro began to weep again, and Inosuke ran over to him, shaking his sleeve. It showed them from above, Zenitsu was still on the ground. And the puddle of blood from Rengoku was still there.

“Be careful running with your words like that,” Tanjiro said.

As all of the boys began crying again, Kanroji and a few others began to cry again. Douma licked his lips as he saw the blood puddle.

“Come on! Let’s go train our asses off,” Inosuke said, dragging Tanjiro.

“Yeah, let’s become stronger. To honor Rengoku-san,” Tanjiro said.

Is he really dragging him? Aoi wondered.

The sound of them sobbing was still heard as Inosuke dragged Tanjiro away from Rengoku. The images faded, showing all three of them with tears flowing from their eyes. Inosuke began to punch Tanjiro on the head, before doing that with both hands.

“Why are you dragging me,” Tanjiro asked.

“I don’t know,” Inosuke said.

I’ll pray for their future endeavors. Rengoku thought.

Why is he hitting him on the head? Douma wondered. How odd.

The music increased its volume as the camera went up, showing a bird’s eye view. The damage that Akaza and Rengoku’s fight caused was massive, cracks were covering the ground. It then showed Rengoku’s crow, flying past as the camera continued going higher. It then followed his crow, he shed tears as he soared through the sky. As it flew through the sky, the scenery changed. Now showing a small town. Kocho and Kanao were outside a building and people were walking by. Kocho’s crow told them the news.

Ah, Kaname.. I’m sorry I left you so soon. Rengoku thought, bowing his head.

“Where is your crow going,” Genya asked.

“I presume to inform everyone about my fate,” Rengoku said.

“It seems we’re first,” Kocho frowned.

Shinobu gasped, “Is that right? Mr. Rengoku has…”

Kocho looked to the ground as she spoke, and Kanao looked at her. It then went to where Kanroji was. She was sitting on a bench that was covered by a red blanket. There was also a bright red umbrella that shaded her from the sun. Her crow then told her the news. Kanroji gasped, covering her mouth in disbelief.

I can’t believe that Rengoku-san is dead. Kanao thought. It reminds me of… Kanae.

“It seems I’m next,” Kanroji said softly.

I wish I was with Kanroji so I comfort her. Iguro thought.

Tokito was walking through a bamboo forest when he received the news. It went closer to him, and he seemed indifferent. Next, was Uzui, who was sitting on a rooftop. His crow, which was covered in flashy accessories, told him about Rengoku’s fate.

“Oh, it’s me, and Ginko,” Tokito said.

Why does he seem so indifferent? I thought all the Hashira would be close. Rui thought.

“I’m next,” Uzui sighed.

Woah, I’ve never seen a crow with so many accessories. Genya thought.

“An Upper Rank demon even Rengoku couldn’t kill it,” Uzui said.

Next was Iguro who was standing on the roof. Kaburamaru looked down at Iguro’s crow, as it told him the news. It went closer to Iguro, who was facing away from the camera. The wind brushed through his uneven hair.

I’m sorry Iguro. Rengoku thought.

I can’t believe he has a snake. Zenitsu thought.

“I won’t believe it,” Iguro stated coldly.

After them was Himejima, who was sitting on a large log. Behind him was Genya, and several stumps. There was a tree knocked down, and a tree with a large hole in it. Genya’s eyes widened at the news, and Himejima put his hands together and began to cry.

Genya is with Himejima-san? Shinazugawa noticed.

“What happened to those trees,” Kanroji asked.

“I’m not sure. Perhaps training,” Himejima said, “But, Rengoku-san. I’ll pray for you in the afterlife.”

“Thank you, Himejima-san,” Rengoku said.

“Namu Amida Butsu,” Himejima prayed.

Shinazugawa was training, cutting bamboo with his green sword. His crow stood on one of the bamboo he had sliced. It went close to his face, which was covered in rage.

Ah, I suppose this means I’m last. Tomioka thought.

“I’ll kill all those sh*tty demons,” Shinazugawa said.

His training ground is so scary. Genya thought.

“Those repulsive demons… I’ll exterminate them all,” Shinazugawa said.

It went to Tomioka, who was shutting the door to his estate as he left. His crow flew down and landed on his shoulder. Tomioka blinked, his expression not changing.

“Ah, Tomioka-san, it seems your last,” Kocho said softly.

I can’t believe that Rengoku-san died. He reminded me so much of Sabito. Tomioka thought.

“Is that so,” Tomioka said.

The sight of blooming wisteria was shone, then more of the tranquil garden. A small river flowed under a stone bridge. It zoomed out, showing Ubuyashiki, Amane, and their eldest child, Hinaki. The three of them were standing in front of the large waterfall.

“Ah, it’s nice to be reminded of the good in the world after such a tragedy,” Himejima said.

“Which child is that,” Tamayo asked.

“It’s Hinaki,” Amane said.

What a beautiful waterfall. Douma thought.

“Not even a single one of those two hundred passengers lost their lives,” Ubuyashiki said, “He did a splendid job indeed. A remarkable child.”

It changed angles, showing Ubuyashiki and his wife from the front. Amane was holding his arm. She wore a pink, floral kimono with a deep blue haori. The disease was covering all of Ubuyashiki’s upper face.

“You both look so pretty,” Aoi said.

“Why thank you, Aoi,” Ubuyashiki said.

“I feel no sadness. My life will soon reach its end as well,” Ubuayshiki continued.

“Oyakata-sama, please don’t think so morbidly,” Kanroji said, “We just lost Rengoku, I don’t want to imagine losing you.”

“Please, don’t fret Mitsuri. I don’t plan on dying soon,” Ubuyashiki said reassuringly.

“I pray that the flame of your heart continues to burn even if just for an extra day,” Himejima said.

Amane looked up at her husband. The angle changed, as he lifted his head. His eyelashes were white as snow. And his eyes were an ombre lavender.

Silly human, there’s nothing after death. Douma thought, chuckling to himself.

What is that bastard laughing about? Kocho wondered.

Calming music began to play, before shifting back to where the Mugen train was. Tanjiro was sitting on his knees, he looked up, still sobbing.

“Mr. Rengoku,” Tanjiro cried, “Rengoku. Rengoku!”

His hand shakily clutched his heart as he cried out for Rengoku. Before the screen finally went black again, now signaling the end.

“Alright everyone. This was the last video for today. We will break for dinner and then continue tomorrow at 9 am. Please feel free to roam around and let us know if you need something. Dinner will be served in one hour,” Shiro said.
