Landman: release date, trailer, cast, plot and everything we know about the Taylor Sheridan series (2024)

Rejoice fans of Taylor Sheridan, the prolific writer has another TV series in the works with Landman. The Sheridan-verse is growing to levels that may only be comparable to Shonda Rhimes and Dick Wolf, as Land Man is one of about 10 shows that he has on-air or is developing, and another for the Paramount Plus streaming service.

Best known as the creator of Yellowstone, Sheridan has helped give Paramount Plus a number of its flagship shows, including 1883, 1923, Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King. Land Man is just another one that he has on the way, in addition to Special Ops: Lioness and Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

Landman release date

Landman premieres on Sunday, November 17, with the first two episodes on Paramount Plus for US subscribers. If you're not a Paramount Plus subscriber, the premiere episode is also getting a special airing on Paramount Network at 9:09 pm ET/PT following the latest episode of Yellowstone season 5 on November 17.

The show premieres Monday, November 18, on Paramount Plus in the UK.

Landman plot

Landman is based on the podcast Boomtown, an 11-part documentary podcast that debuted in 2019 and chronicled the oil business in Texas. Here is the official synopsis for Landman:

"Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, Landman is a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs. Based on the notable 11-part podcast Boomtown from Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly, the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it's reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics."

Landman cast

Billy Bob Thornton stars in Landman, playing the main character of Tommy Norris (he is also an executive producer). Thornton is an Oscar-nominated actor (and Oscar winner for the Sling Blade screenplay) whose famous roles include Goliath, Friday Night Lights, Bad Santa and Monster's Ball. He previously worked with Sheridan in 1883, appearing as a guest star in the prequel series.

Other members of the Landman cast include Ali Larter (Legally Blonde, The Rookie) as Tommy's Wife Angela; Michelle Randolph (1923) as Tommy's daughter Ainsley, who is "wild and strong-willed"; Jacob Lofland (Joker: Folie a Deux) as Cooper. Tommy's son; Kayla Wallace (When Calls the Heart); James Jordan (Special Ops: Lioness); Mark Collie (Nashville); Colm Feore (Murdoch Mysteryes); Paulin Chavez (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia); and Demi Moore.

A few big names are signed on as guest stars, including Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia and Michael Peña.
