Rice twist emerges as Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea move for Liverpool targets (2024)

Premier League clubs are once again preparing to spend big this summer as they gear up for another exciting season of football.

Manchester City were out on their own in 2022-23 as they won a historic treble. But Arsenal showed much improvement as they finished second in the Premier League.

Manchester United and Newcastle United were the other two sides to secure Champions League football with Liverpool settling for a Europa League spot and fifth place after an underwhelming campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea missed out on Europe altogether. But will be looking to come back next term with a fire in their bellies.

And here is the latest transfer rumours surrounding the teams at the top of the Premier League...

Arsenal

Arsenal will go back in with a second bid for West Ham United captain Declan Rice 'very, very soon', says Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth.

According to various reports, the Hammers rejected a bid of around £80m from Arsenal for Rice as they look for over £100m for their star man.

Speaking on Sky Sports News’ Transfer Show on Saturday, Sheth said: “Are we expecting Arsenal to go back in? I think 100 per cent we are, and we’re expecting them to go back in very, very soon.”

He continued: “It’s started now, officially, Arsenal have gone to West Ham, they’ve put the bid on the table, West Ham have said no… Let’s see what happens next.”

Meanwhile, the Gunners are also said to be eyeing Liverpool transfer target Romeo Lavia. The 19-year-old midfielder enjoyed an impressive season for relegated Southampton after his £10.5m move from Manchester City.

The Belgium international is on Liverpool's shortlist. However, the Guardian claim Arsenal want both Rice and Lavia, who is valued at £45m.

Manchester City

Meanwhile, Man City are reportedly keeping an eye on the developments in the Rice saga, particularly with the future of out-of-contract captain Ilkay Gundogan unclear.

Fabrizio Romano reports: "Declan Rice deal - entering into crucial days. Arsenal want to be fast to avoid surprises, new bid to be discussed after £80m rejected. Personal terms almost agreed. Understand Man City asked again for status of Rice deal on Friday, waiting for Gundogan decision."

Elsewhere, the newly crowned Champions League winners are said to be preparing an offer for RB Leipzing defender Josko Gvardiol, who grew up as a Liverpool fan and as been linked with a move to Anfield in the past.

Florian Plettenberg has spoken of City's interest in the Croatia defender. Although they would have spend a huge amount to get Gvardiol, with Leipzig set to demand a fee worth in the region of £85m.

Aymeric Laporte is thought to be leaving City with Paris Saint-Germain eyeing a move for the Spain international.

Manchester United

Manchester United are expected to make an improved £50m offer for Mason Mount this week, according to the Daily Mail.

United had saw a £40m bid for the 24-year-old rejected by Chelsea earlier this week. Mount was on the list of midfielders Liverpool are looking at.

Meanwhile, United boss Erik ten Hag could be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper with David De Gea yet to agree on a new contract - and Everton's Jordan Pickford could make the move to Old Trafford in a rumoured £45m deal.

According to the Daily Star, United could offer Pickford the chance to double his wages if he was to leave the Blues this summer.

Chelsea

Another midfielder who has been linked with Liverpool is Conor Gallagher. But according to the Guardian, the West London outfit would be willing to include the England international in any deal that would enable them to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

The report also states that Chelsea are attempting to wrap up a £30m deal for Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson, in addition to top midfield target Caicedo, and are expected to bid for the Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga, who has a £34m release clause, and who, you guessed it, is also on Liverpool's radar.
